Like lots of people, I can’t resist a coffee shop - so whenever a new one pops up, it would simply just be rude not to try it out.

The Black Dog Coffee Co. opened just a few weeks ago in Wharfside, Devizes, and it turns out they’re already off to a flying start.

Mark, who co-owns the café, said they’ve been really busy with customers, and lots of groups have been holding meet-ups there, which has really brought in the trade.

I can never decide which drink to go for so was pleased when they had some advice for me when I arrived.

“Flat whites are a speciality”, said Mark.

I tried one out and I can confirm that it didn’t disappoint.

The café in Devizes is the perfect place to do some work in, if you’re in need of a change of scenery, and all the customers who came in when I was there seemed delighted with the town’s new addition.

It is positioned in the town’s wharfside, which was beautiful on the summery day I headed there.

The space itself is the perfect mixture of new-meets-old, as it is in the loveliest brick building, which the decor was made to match with total sophistication.

Some of the walls still exposed the old brick, and one featured some wooden panelling- making you feel almost like you’re in some kind of jazzy city restaurant.

Outside is a courtyard, part of which is occupied by some of the coffee shop’s seating.

They also pride themselves on being dog friendly, and I did think when I was there that my own dog would love sitting outside and feeling the breeze.

The whole feel of the place was ideal if you’re wanting to treat yourself to a moment of peace and quiet, and the relaxed atmosphere means that you can work or catch up with friends without feeling a pressure to leave at any point.

Both Mark and Karen seemed so happy and relaxed to be set up successfully.

And as the Black Dog Coffee Co. actually started as a home baking business in lockdown, with the backbone of their work being from accumulating lots of Facebook followers- being able to see it all up and running in person felt extra special.

All of the cakes in the café are homemade by the owners - and while I didn’t try any on this occasion, I’m already tempted to go back to give them a go.
