A drink driver from Devizes has been banned from the roads for more than two years.
James Fowlds, 54, of Caen Hill Marina, was arrested on May 29, last year following a report to police that he had been seen drinking at a pub in Devizes before driving off in his Mercedes.
A description of the vehicle was given to officers who located the car outside the Spar shop in the town and Fowlds was sat in the drivers seat with the engine running.
He provided a roadside breath test and CCTV enquiries were conducted which showed Fowlds driving the vehicle to the shop.
He was charged with drink driving and was fined £200, ordered to pay Crown Prosecution Service costs of £200 and a £34 victim surcharge.
He has also been disqualified from driving for 25 months.
PC Chris Miller said: “I am really pleased that Fowlds has been given a disqualification and I am grateful to the community for reporting their concerns regarding his drink driving back on the date in question in May 2021.
"We conduct patrols around the county every day but we also rely on the community to help be our eyes and ears and report their concerns so we can take action. In this instance, their diligence has really paid off.”
