CHILDREN are invited to go wild this month by participating in an event which takes place at the Salisbury Museum.

Those under the age of 16 can go bug crazy by joining in the minibeast hunt and even dress up for the occasion.

The museum is hoping to encourage children to enjoy looking for insects, to find out more about them and to learn to love them because insects are vital for the future.

Kate Barker said: “We’ve been growing lots of different plants in the museum gardens to attract bugs and insects. We currently have our Insect Odyssey exhibition on display and in 2024, we’ll have a new gallery devoted to natural history, looking at what happens to wildlife because of a climate change.

“Children can help us now by letting us know what has been spotted on their minibeast hunt – hand in the sheet at reception and we’ll update the ‘recent sightings’ board.”

Insects help in a variety of ways including pollinating plants and are indicators of the changing climate so monitoring insects in Salisbury provides vital data.

The event takes place throughout August and more information can be found at the Salisbury Museum website.
