A Swindon landlady has spoken of the measures she has been forced to take to keep her pub afloat during the cost of living crisis.

Millions of people had had their budgets squeezed as rising inflation takes hold and energy bills soar.

Jayne Tilsley has been managing The Runner in Rushey Platt for the last two-and-a-half years.

She runs the pub with her partner Miles.

Jayne said: “Before the pandemic came we would do food all day every day but we’ve changed our food hours now and have a break in the middle because there is just not that trade.

“In the climate that we’re in, the profit is certainly not the profit that we’re used to make.

“We’re very lucky that we are in the summer months, but we are aware that we don’t switch every single light on and we try and manage the business as best we can.”

Jayne added that she was very worried about the winter months and called on people try and visit pubs across the UK as much as possible.

She added: “People need to use pubs, not just my pub but every pub.

“Hospitality is on its knees and I think people need to get back into the habit of going out socialising and we need support from the public or else we’ll have no pubs.”

The Runner is located on Wootton Bassett Road and is open from noon until 11pm from Monday to Saturday and on Sundays from noon till 6pm.
