ANTI-POLICE graffiti appeared in Amesbury on Friday night and volunteers cleaned it up.

Several businesses and items of street furniture were vandalised between 11pm and 11.45pm on Friday night, August 5.

The spate of graffiti saw hateful messages sprayed on several walls throughout Amesbury's town centre.

Four Stonehenge Chamber of Trade members gave up their Sunday this week to help clean up the town.

Vicky Parks, chair of the Chamber, said: "Most of the graffiti was on private property so it wouldn't be something the council could clean up.

"We decided to take the initiative and do it ourselves."

Cleaning materials and chemicals for the clean up were sourced from local businesses and paid for by the Chamber with a contribution from Amesbury Autocare, who was one of the victims.

Tara Green, who owns a business in the town, commented: "I just want to say thank you - my shop was one that had been graffitied.

"It was such a lovely thing to see when I brought my partner down this afternoon to look so we could sort it."

CCTV of the vandals has been passed on and a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We are investigating several incidents of graffiti in Amesbury town centre.

"The daubings, on the outside of several buildings, took place on Friday, August 5, between 11pm and 11.45pm.

"Anyone who might have seen someone acting suspiciously or walking around town at that time can contact us on 101 using the reference number 54220082756."
