HUDREDS of homes in Swindon have been left without power.

The outage happened at 2.41pm on Wednesday afternoon in the SN25 area of the town,  which affected 2,364 SSE customers.

The traffic lights on Thamesdown Drive were said to be not working as a result of the power cut.

House alarms are also said to have gone off.

SSE has confirmed that power has since been restored to homes in places like Blunsdon, Rodbourne Cheney and Priory Vale, with the vast majority of customers having their power restored by 4.11pm.

But the energy company says a local fault remains in place on the network, affecting up to 21 customers.

Engineers are currently investigating the cause of the fault and expect to have all customers fully restored by this evening.

A spokesperson for SSEN said: “We would like to apologise to our customers who are experiencing a loss of power, and thank them for their patience while our engineers work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
