Organisers of Ellingham Show are urging visitors not to bring their dogs to the showground.

The event at Somerley Park returns this Saturday (August 13) as the show celebrates its 75th anniversary.

The decision has been taken following consultation with the RSPCA, and means there will not be dog section activities and a number of events in the main ring.

A spokesperson for Ellignham Show said: "We are asking  dog owners not to bring dogs to the show ground this year.  This follows consultation with the RSPCA

"Temperatures are looking to be in the 30 degree range, where people are advised to refrain from walking their dogs. Sadly, this means an end to all our Dog Section activities and a number of events in the main ring. But we are confident all dog owners will agree and hope all will comply with our request.

"Together with our public health and animal welfare partners we are taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of all other animals, not to mention our human visitors.

"There are many attractions to enjoy at the show and we will publish a revised schedule for our main ring on Friday 12 on our website."

Over the last three years the event has been thwarted by bad weather and then the Covid-19 pandemic but finally makes its return this week.
