Extreme heat will continue this weekend in Salisbury with temperatures rising up to 34 C today and peaking at 33 C on Sunday.

The extreme temperatures indicate the likelihood of heat-related illnesses including heat exhaustion and sunburn.

Temperatures overnight will remain above 20 C until 4 am.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning recently and following this, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) issued a red fire severity alert.

Having attended 80 fires in the open between August 1 and August 10 this year - an increase of over 429 per cent against the same time the previous year, DWFRS are asking people to report any fires seen in the countryside as early detection can prevent a large wildfire incident.

Wildfires can destroy ecosystems in hours and if a fire spreads across farmland, crops, and farm buildings can be consumed.

Wildfires create their own wind which drives fires at speeds faster than people can move from the area.  For safety, avoid lighting open fires and barbecues and any litter should be taken home and cigarettes extinguished fully.

Water companies are asking customers to be careful with the way water is used but Wessex Water has not imposed a hosepipe ban.
