A man has been airlifted to hospital after a collision involving two cars and a lorry on the A30 near Salisbury. 

His condition is described as "critical but stable". 

The A30 is currently closed between the A338 junction and Pitton village.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on the A30 near Salisbury involving two cars and a lorry.

"A man has been airlifted to Southampton hospital after being freed from his vehicle. His condition is described as critical but stable.

"The A30 is currently closed between the A338 junction and Pitton village.

"Closure are expected to be in place for some hours to allow emergency services to attend the scene. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes."

The incident was reported to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service at around 11.40am. 

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Three crews attended, two from Salisbury and one from Wilton, and one casualty has been cut free from their vehicle. Our stop came at 12.45pm."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 11.31am to a road traffic collision near Salisbury. The resources we sent included two air ambulances, two double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer and we conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.”
