A man in his 40s who was airlifted to hospital after a crash on the A30 near Salisbury "remains in a critical condition".

Officers investigating the collision that happened yesterday are appealing for witnesses or dash cam footage. 

Police say that at approximately 11.30am, a BMW and a Mercedes travelling in opposite directions were involved in a collision near to the junction with Whiteway. 

A statement released by Wiltshire Police said: "The driver of the BMW, a man in his 40s from London, sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.

"He remains in a critical condition. There were two other people in the vehicle at the time, but they were not injured.  

"The driver of the Mercedes was also not injured."

Both vehicles sustained significant damage. 

The statement added: "We believe a number of drivers may have witnessed the collision who have not yet spoken to police.

"We would like to speak to these people and also ascertain if they have dash cam footage which could help. 

"Any witnesses to the collision should call 101 and quote log number 113 of September 15."
