A grammar school in Salisbury welcomed guests into Salisbury Cathedral for its 94th speech day on Thursday (September 22).

Speech day at South Wilts Grammar School is an opportunity to celebrate student success and thank staff for their contribution and commitment.

Parents and pupils were both invited to the event, which ran from 7.30pm until 8.30pm.

Mayor of Salisbury Tom Corbin and Deputy Mayor Atiqul Hoque attended to hear guest speaker and alumna Emma Scrivener share her experience beyond South Wilts.

'Enjoy the ride!'

Emma left South Wilts in 2014 is now employed as engagement team leader in the COVID Task Force, she said: "The staff at school empowered and encouraged us.

"Now I'm in the workplace, I have tried to embody some of these values by being a manager who takes the time to listen and empower my team."

She said South Wilts has provided her the "confidence and grounding" to pursue her passions, adding: "It has empowered me to seize opportunities and indeed roll with the punches.

"There is no doubt you will all be going onwards and upwards as you leave this place - the destination you may not know yet but my advice? Enjoy the ride!”

Headteacher Michele Chilcott has been with the school for eleven years.

Reflecting on the recent academic results, she said: "The GCSE and A Level grades that were achieved were outstanding this year, and are a testament to the hard work, dedication and resilience of our students.

"South Wilts is a thriving school community where academic excellence and compassion go hand in hand.

"I am immensely proud to be headteacher of this school.”
