Laverstock Gardening Club has celebrated a special milestone - its 20th anniversary.

There were celebrations at the gardening club’s AGM on Monday, September 26.

Twenty years ago, in September 2002, 30 people responded when Sarah Beswick put a notice in the village newsletter.

This enthusiasm marked the beginning of Laverstock Gardening Club, spearheaded by Mary Reardon, its first chair.

The club continues to meet regularly in Laverstock Village Hall.

Affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the club is part of Britain’s largest network of gardening clubs and horticultural societies.

Members meet regularly to hear specialist speakers, to arrange visits to gardens or to swap plants and seeds grown in their own gardens.

Jill Kay, the current chair, said: “Whether you’re brand new to gardening, or have lots of experience, you will receive a warm welcome; everyone is friendly.”

The club has a healthy membership of up to 60 local people, who meet on the 4th Monday of most months.
