Winterbourne Earls Primary School was thrilled to have well-known author Jacqueline Wilson to open their new-look library this week.

The author who has written over 100 books to-date, told children all about her childhood aspirations and journey as a writer.

The ‘Tracy Beaker’ author shared the importance of editing and redrafting and told them that reading was her favourite thing to do. She always takes two books with her on every trip.

Chief librarian Gracie said: “It was amazing that I got to meet her and that she came and shared her new book with us. It was an experience that many of us really enjoyed and might never get to do again.”

Children from Gomeldon Primary School were also in attendance.

During the pandemic, sharing books and sitting in a communal library was not encouraged so the re-opening of the space has been a real focus.

Friends of Winterbourne Earls school supported the venture by buying new furniture and staff and pupils spent hours during the summer cataloguing the book collection. Some of the latest titles were supplied by the Salisbury bookshop ‘The Rocketship’.

After the talk, Jacqueline took questions from the children and signed nearly 100 copies of her new book, ‘Project Fairy’ while in the new library.
