FORDINGBRIDGE pupils transformed into spooky characters for a special launch event.

Lots of spook-tacular fun was had at Fordingbridge Infant and Junior Schools Federation for the launch of its new phonics scheme Monster Phonics.

As part of the launch, children and teachers dressed up as their favourite monster character and the whole school took part in a variety of monster-themed activities, including monstrous cake eating.

In Key Stage 1, the children took part in a treasure hunt where the Year 6 children represented each of the Monster characters.

Classrooms were filled with plenty of colourful characters, the most popular being Cool Blue, Tricky Witch and Green Froggy.

Each character represents a group of sounds and the school says the colour coding is an excellent way for the children to make links with their phonics learning.

The children also took part in a writing competition to win one of the Monster Phonics fully decodable books.

A spokesperson for Fordingbridge Infant and Junior Schools Federation said: "It was wonderful to see how engaged the children were with their new phonics learning and to see the school transformed into Monster Land for the day. Seeing our pupils using their phonics and showing off the fantastic progress they are making was amazing. What a great start."
