An Amesbury woman has been named Chiropractor of the Year by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA).

Philippa Oakley, founder of Acorn Health, won the most prestigious accolade at the BCA Excellence Awards on Saturday November 6.

The award is given to only one chiropractor each year in recognition of their outstanding achievements within the profession.

Specialising in clinical LGBTQ+ inclusivity awareness, Philippa's approach to patient-centred care and communication was recognised by the BCA.

She has recently been involved in the ground-breaking NHS Rainbow Badges Assessment scheme as the LGBT Development Officer.

While Philippa began her career working with NHS patients, she established Acorn Health in 2014 and relocated her clinic to Amesbury at the start of 2022.

She said: "I am thrilled to have been recognised as Chiropractor of the Year for my contribution to the promotion and understanding of healthcare inequalities and the impact these can have on people’s health and wellbeing."

Acorn Health has received awards from the Royal College of Chiropractors in recognition of its commitment to patient care and clinical excellence.

In addition to her role as a Chiropractor, Philippa is also a qualified coach and mentor with the NHS Leadership Academy and a professional member of the Royal College of Chiropractors Pain Faculty.

President Catherine Quinn, of the BCA, said: "Philippa has been chosen as a worthy recipient of the Chiropractor of the Year award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the promotion and understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and for inspiring all BCA members to learn and develop their skills in this area.”
