A WARNING poster has been erected at parts of the Fisherton Recreation Ground due to asbestos being discovered.

This has led to a part of the River Project being halted.

It comes just weeks after the project was delayed due to a discharge of raw sewage into the River Avon.

Asbestos is a dangerous substance that can lead to tiny fibres becoming stuck in the lungs and can lead to an irritation of lung tissue.

The environmental agency has stated some of the planned excavation works are on hold due to the quantity of asbestos which would have been deposited when the ground was raised.

They have stated that it is low risk.

Specialist contractors will be on-site to remove and dispose of the asbestos safely.

The environment agency has thanked people for their patience and apologised for any disruption.
