A SALISBURY hairdresser has proven his skills by scooping a prestigious honour at the British Hairdressing Awards.

Crowned Men’s Hairdresser of the Year, George Smith of TONI&GUY beat some of the most revered stylists to claim the trophy following his showcase of men’s hair expertise photographic collection which demonstrated his skill, creative vision, and comprehension of current trends.

25-year-old George said: “Both of my parents influenced me in a big way. They would always cut my hair as a kid, so I always had an interest in it. I went on Dad’s photographic shoots too.”

 “This is absolutely unreal; I can’t believe it.”

Coming from a prolific hairdressing family, his dad is Phil Smith, well-known in the industry, who has run Smith England on the High Street in Salisbury for more than 10 years.

His mum Louise is an award-winning hairdresser and owner of TONI&GUY Salisbury for more than 30 years.

The competition is now in its 38th year and is judged anonymously by over 100 leading hairdressers including celebrity stylists, salon owners, session stylists, former winners, and Hall of Fame members.

The British Hairdresser of the Year is the biggest award of the event and is by nomination only and is widely regarded as a great accolade within the industry.

Executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, Jayne Lewis-Orr, said: “HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards are a celebration of the passion, artistry, and expertise of some of our industry’s most remarkable talents.

“In winning this award, George has demonstrated that he is an accomplished men’s hair stylist with a creative mind and exceptional eye for detail. The standard of entries this year has been phenomenal, and George should feel incredibly proud to have been named as a winner.”

The competition is sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, and George received the prestigious award on Monday, November 28 in front of 14,00 people at Grosvenor House, a hotel in London’s Park Lane.
