A family-owned fish and chip shop with three branches in Wiltshire is in the running for a national award.

Harlees Fish & Chips has an award-winning shop in Archers Way, Amesbury, and two other shops in High Streety, Westbury, and Station Approach, Bradford on Avon.

The firm is among three businesses in the running for Best Multiple Operator at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023 with the winner set to be announced in February.

Harlees Fish & Chips will be up against The Chesterford Group in Hertfordshire and Bells Fish & Chips in Durham.

Harlees Fish & Chips, based in Dorset, is a family business run by Richard and Lynda Long and daughter Kaylee Herbert.

Richard Long is the third and Kaylee Herbert is the fourth generation of the family to go into the industry.

The chain employs 95 people full-time and part-time at eight sites across Dorset and Wiltshire.

The sites include an award-winning restaurant in Westbury that featured in the Top 10 restaurants compiled by Fry Magazine in 2022 and in the Top 50 in 2021.

Kaylee said: “We are really delighted to be a finalist in the awards for Best Multiple Operator.

“We are really proud of our team and we could not have done it without them. They have worked so hard for this during the pandemic and they really deserve it.

“At Harlees we have always been devoted to ensuring customers have the best experience and the best-tasting fish and chips.

“We are passionate about maintaining our caring, personal family feel business and it’s our mission to provide high-quality fish for the family and future.”

The Best Multiple Operator category celebrates businesses which operate multiple fish and chips sites across the UK. It is sponsored by Meadow Vale Foods, a leading supplier of poultry products to the food service and retail market.

The National Fish and Chip Awards are being hosted by the NFFF on February 28 at the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster Bridge, London.

NFFF president Andrew Crook said: “Finding the best operators who have managed multiple sites during a difficult year for the industry is so important to highlight and celebrate their success.

“It’s amazing to see strong businesses thriving, and we’re looking forward to seeing them continue to grow in 2023!”

The National Fish and Chip Awards is the largest UK-wide event dedicated to raising standards across the industry whilst supporting fish and chip-related businesses.
