THE SALISBURY Foodbank party has been dubbed a "huge success".

The charity supported more than 100 children and families with gifts, entertainment, food, games, crafts, face painting and the opportunity to meet Father Christmas.

The charity added on Facebook that it was "a party of epic proportions which went mostly to plan".

It was held at St Michael's Community Centre on Wednesday (December 21).

An endless list of local people helped pull all the magic together including Reeves the Baker who provided a big cake, two raffle prize cakes and an endless supply of cheese straws.

Curry’s donated raffle prizes - a shark vacuumed being a top prize.

A-plan insurance donated staff, Wiltshire Creative donated crafts - which Sarah Gregson from Salisbury City Council kindly helped the kids create, and Mission Christmas donated the bulk of the toys.

There was also a Santa's Grotto.

Maria Stevenson, the foodbank manager, said "The list of thanks is endless, I simply can’t list them all."

Maria added: "This is 'more than food' this is making sure 100 children wake up on Christmas morning knowing that Father Christmas didn’t forget them. This is 43 families sitting back with a cuppa in hand and a smile on their faces on Christmas morning being able to relax and enjoy the moment of joy and jubilation and forget about any troubles they may have.

"The foodbank didn’t make this happen. The generous people of Salisbury and South Wiltshire made it happen.

"We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and happy new year.  We have limited service between Christmas and new year."
