DRIVERS had to swerve out of the way of another driver speeding down the A303 on the wrong side of the road yesterday.

Dashcam footage shows multiple motorists having to swerve into the left-hand lane of the dual-carriageway in order to avoid the oncoming car.

Holidymaker Nick Hodges shared the video with the Journal

Nick and his wife were driving home to Devon from Heathrow on the A303 at around 6.50pm.

They had been in Switzerland for Christmas.

Nick told the Journal: "Going past the last Andover junction there was this terrifying moment as my wife and I both realised that the lights ahead weren’t coming from the opposite carriageway.

"I slammed on the brakes and veered to the left which sent the car into a skid but fortunately stability control kicked in and I managed to correct it. I’m so glad it wasn’t raining and that the lane next to me was empty - we’d only just passed a few cars so it could easily have been a disaster."

Luckily Nick and his wife were unhurt - and there are currently no reports of any injuries caused by this incident.

Another Twitter user called Fly Navy Phil also shared his experience of the incident.

They said: "I have just spent a lovely day with my daughter and granddaughter but I nearly didn’t make it home. Passing Andover on the A303 I encountered a car driving the wrong way down my carriageway. Thankfully I was in light traffic at the time. It must have caused an accident later."

Hampshire Police has been contacted for more information.
