A woman who started a fundraiser for her disabled mother has thanked everyone who donated.

Ashley Hunt, 21, launched a GoFundMe on December 19 to help her mother who suffers from multiple complex health conditions.

She took it upon herself to raise money to buy medical equipment so that her mother can "spend her last few years as comfortable and in as little pain as possible".

Ashley's mother, who wished to remain anonymous, receives medication from the NHS but struggles to get around on her own.

The 47-year-old single mother-of-five worked as a mental health nurse who "always went the extra mile".

Ashley wanted to give back after all the help her mother has given to her patients over the years, she said: "My Mum put herself in harm's way every day, working long hours, but that didn't matter to her.

"She wanted to be reliable to those that needed her and she worked herself to the ground.

"She told me stories of how she saved many lives, even sometimes with a hug or a phone call."

Ashley's mother has suffered with her physical health for a long time but in the last few years she was diagnosed with lupus, fibromialgia, Raynaud's phenomenon, osteoarthritis in her right hip, and oedema in her pelvis.

These severe conditions mean that Ashley's mother is unable to work.

Ashley has so far raised £290 towards her £500 goal (as of December 29) to buy a new rise and recline chair for her mother, who commented: "I am very appreciative of my daughter's efforts to help me.

"A strong, independent young lady, trying to do the right thing and make sure my limited time here is as comforting as possible.

"I couldn't ask for a more wonderful daughter."

For Ashley, the donations have "meant more than just the money itself".

Thanking those who have contributed, she added: "The GoFundMe is helping me give back to Mum after all she has done.

"It’s also helping my mum gain so much of her lost independence and putting so many minds at ease knowing she’ll have more stability in her home when we aren’t able to be there."

Ashley thinks the NHS should provide patients suffering from similar conditions to her mother with equipment to make life easier for them.
