A MAN has appeared in court charged with arson after a fire was started in McDonald's. 

Kieran Draper appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 4.

to answer charges of starting a fire in the first-floor toilets of the Salisbury McDonald’s on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 by setting toilet rolls alight.

The fire was started in the first-floor toilets of the Salisbury McDonald's on Winchester Street on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

The restaurant was evacuated and Winchester Street was closed between the junctions with Queen Street and Rollestone Street for just over two hours.

Police quickly announced suspicion of arson at the time and appealed to the public for information.

Draper, now 18, of Maryland Close, Bemerton Heath, Salisbury, is charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, according to court records, and is scheduled for a further hearing at Salisbury Crown Court on Friday, February 3.
