A man who was arrested for allegedly driving his car into the River Avon has pleaded not guilty.

Mr Kenroy Baptiste, 36, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 10.

He has been charged with drink driving on Avon Appraoch, on Saturday, January 14.

Mr Baptiste, of Picton Barracks, Bulford, was arrested after the blue Vauxhall Corsa was found partially submerged in the River Avon in the early morning hours.

No one was in the car when it was first discovered and an orange traffic cone was in the driver’s seat.

At his hearing on Friday, the court said a member of the public had come forward as a witness, saying he had spoken to Baptiste after the crash had occurred.

Baptiste argued that he was not the one driving the vehicle, and pleaded not guilty.

However, he admitted to having drank “two small beers” before driving to Salisbury earlier that day, according to his solicitor..

Baptiste’s trial has been set for Thursday, May 11 at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court.
