PLANS for a solar farm will be discussed at tonight’s Environment and Climate Committee meeting.

Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy says that it has plans for a solar farm on the outskirts of Salisbury.

It addeds that it will submit a planning application for the 5.5-acre site in Petersfinger in April of this year.

The farm will consist of over 2,700 panels, which WWCE says will be capable of producing 1,600 MWh of electricity per year.

The organisation also stated that this will help cut up to 300 tonnes of CO2 per year.

A local landowner has donated the land to the organisation.

The Communities for Renewables has already conducted a feasibility study to make sure the proposed site, just south of the A36, is suitable for the solar farm.

Any surplus income generated by the project will be reinvested into WWCE’s community grant fund, which they say will support community initiatives in surrounding areas such as Clarendon Park, Britford and Alderbury.

Tonight's meeting is at 6.30pm in Salisbury Guildhall, and the public will be able to attend the meeting.
