NEW plans for Old Sarum Airfield are going on display next week at a public exhibition.

It will be held at the Skies Cafe in Old Sarum, on Wednesday, March 22, between the hours of 2pm and 7pm.

There are plans to submit a new planning application on the site, and the owners have been working on a new, revised scheme following last year's High Court judgement.

Nick Baker, the chairman of Laverstock and Ford Parish Council, said: "The airfield is a much loved part of our local heritage and landscape. It is encouraging that the owners are seeking feedback from the community before they finalise their plans.

"I would encourage residents to visit the exhibition or download the materials and share their thoughts with the developers. When a formal planning application is submitted residents will have an opportunity to send comments in support or objection to Wiltshire Council and so it might be an idea to note down any feedback given to developers to see whether it has been reflected in the final plans."

When the plans are submitted the parish council will consider its response to the application in a public meeting, but it anticipates this will be several months away.

Directors of the First World War airfield announced in June last year that they will be sharing new proposals, which will “ensure the landmark heritage site will be restored and its long-term future secured” but also “take into consideration” the views of the planning inspector, Historic England and Mr Justice Knowles who gave a ruling in a High Court Appeal.

Specific details of the revised plans have not yet been revealed, but the Journal understands these could include the demolition of non-listed buildings in the Conservation Area; repair of existing buildings, and around 320 new homes.

Area A, by the Portway has been reduced by half to 160 houses, Area B will remain roughly the same as before, and Area C in Ford, has been reduced from 160 houses to 155.

There will be a formal consultation process once the application is finalised.
