THE landlord of the Salisbury Arms and Anchor & Hope has said the pubs are still open and still trading.

It comes after a Journal report on how several pubs in the area have been put on the market for either rent or to buy.

While factually correct, there were fears that people would think the two pubs had already closed - or would be closing permanently in the near future.

But this is not the case, and speaking to the Journal, landlord Will Brown, 40, wants to assure his customers that the doors to both pubs are still very much open.

"We are still here and still trading and still fighting", he said.

Mr Brown also confirmed to the Journal that the only reason he is leaving the pubs is because the ten-year lease is up in the next few months.

But until then, nothing has changed, and the pubs are very much ready for customers.

Mr Brown explained how people's spending, eating and drinking habits have changed over the last few years, which has made running pubs especially difficult - not helped by the rising cost of things such as energy and beer.

"It has been a challenge, but I love it", he said, and he wants to stay in hospitality.

He said running both pubs has been "amazing", and that he has met some "awesome people" in his time.

Not from Salisbury originally, he has grown to love the city, and both of his two children were born here.

The Salisbury Arms is on Endless Street and is open from 4pm-11pm Tuesday and Wednesday, and 4pm to 12pm Thursday to Saturday.
