A NEW charity shop has opened on Fordingbridge High Street.

Avon Valley Community Matters' new shop was officially opened by the Mayor of Fordingbride, Councillor Anna Wilson, who cut the ribbon.

The charity said: "With no other charity shop in the town, there has been so much excitement in the community during the build-up to this day."Salisbury Journal:

The new shop has a team of 15 volunteers who assist staff members in daily routines.

Avon Valley Community Matters (AVCM) is a local organisation, set up to assist with specific matters within the community.

AVCM is known for its work supporting the bereaved, as well as the hosting of a Friendship Group and running two "thriving" local play groups.

Trustee of AVCM Revd Kate Wilson said: “We have been looking to run a charity shop for some time now, and it seems as if this opportunity has been an answer to prayer."

She continued: "We are so excited that our dream has finally become a reality. Please do come and support our new shop. Everyone is welcome.”Salisbury Journal:

In an official statement, the organisation said that the shop will help to generate income to fund outreach projects within local Churches and the community.

AVCM describe the new venture to be "More than just a shop selling preloved goods" with plans to support and "nurture young people with Special Educational Needs, and others in need of support, by offering them valuable retail experience."
