A PARISH council is holding a meeting to discuss plans to build up to 1,700 houses in Alderholt.

It comes after Bournemouth-based developer Dudsbury Homes submitted an application to develop the Alderholt Meadows site off Ringwood Road.

A formal consultation opened on March 28 and the public is able to submit comments on the development up until April 29.

Following this, the Alderholt Parish Council has organised a meeting to hear the views of the villagers.

It will take place in the Alderholt Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday, April 11.

The opinions will later be discussed by the council before it agrees and submits its own comments to Dorset Council.

Chairman Adrian Hibberd said: "Dudsbury Homes planning application has the possibility to change the character of Alderholt.

"As a parish council we want to hear everyone’s views on this application. I hope to see the hall full of people on the 11th."

Alderholt currently has a population of around 2,872, according to 2021 Census data.

If the 1,700-home development were to go ahead, the population of Alderholt would more than double.
