A COLLEGE has become the first of its kind in the city to install an on-demand electric bike docking station.
Wiltshire College & University Centre (WCUC) has partnered with Co Bikes to install a docking station in Salisbury.
The other electric bike storage was opened in late 2022 at the train station.
10 bikes are available at launch but Co Bikes plans to grow the fleet as more organisations take part in the travel scheme.
Staff, students and the general public are all able to access the bikes through the Nextbike app at a cost of £1.50 per 15 minutes.
To unlock a bike, simply scan the QR code printed on it through the app.
Once at the end of the journey, users can lock the bike back into one of the two stations.
Steve Campion, deputy principal of corporate resources at WCUC, said the bikes will be a "great alternative" for those travelling to college from the train station.
He added: “Sustainability is one of our key strategic focusses as an organisation and a scheme like this one in partnership with Co Bikes fits perfectly in line with our objectives."
Managing director Nic Eversett, at Co Cars and Co Bikes, said: “Our e-bikes are the perfect way to get around Salisbury easily and quickly."
