Two restaurants, four cafes, a pub, one bar and six takeaways recently received perfect hygiene rating scores while one pub received four-out-five. 

The food Standards Agency describes a score of two-out-of-five as indicating that “some improvement is necessary”, a three-out-of-five “generally satisfactory”, a four-out-five “good” and a five-out-of-five “very good” 

All but one of the new ratings received five with the Greyfisher pub on Ayleswade Road, receiving a hygiene rating of four. 

Below is a breakdown of all the recently announced scores for eating and drinking establishments in and around Salisbury. 

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

• Rated 5: Arman Handcrafted Shop at 55 Silver Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire; rated on April 6

• Rated 5: Nole Pizza at 4 Butcher Row, Salisbury, Wiltshire; rated on April 6

Sean Blackford, General Manager at Nole Pizza said: “We’ve kept up standards and cleanliness across the restaurant so I’m not surprised we achieved this score”. 

• Rated 5: Qudos at The White Horse Hotel, Castle Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire; rated on March 27

Andy Green, director of Qudos, said: “We’re very pleased, I hate to sound ungrateful but we expected it anyway with all the systems we make sure are in place.

“It’s all down to the staff maintaining the restaurant at the same level of quality” 

• Rated 5: Skies Cafe at Hangar 3, Lancaster Road, Old Sarum, Salisbury; rated on March 27

• Rated 5: Messums Wiltshire Ltd at Place Farm, Court Street, Tisbury, Salisbury; rated on March 20

• Rated 5: The Gallery Cafe at Fisherton Mill, 108 Fisherton Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire; rated on March 9

A spokesperson for the cafe said: “The Gallery Cafe receives consistently high food hygiene ratings scores due to daily cleaning and checks, which all Cafe staff adhere to. 

“We take cleanliness and hygiene seriously very seriously and are obviously very pleased that the efforts of the Cafe team have been recognised.” 

Pubs, bars and nightclubs

• Rated 5: Tidworth Garrison Golf Club at Bulford Road, Tidworth, Wiltshire; rated on March 30

• Rated 5: Salisbury Masonic Association Ltd at Freemasons Hall, 100 Crane Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire; rated on February 24

• Rated 4: The Greyfisher at Ayleswade Road, Harnham, Salisbury, Wiltshire; rated on March 1

A spokesperson for Greene King, owner of The Greyfisher: “We work extremely hard to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, we are pleased to achieve a four star rating.

“We understand there is still room for improvement, so we are in the process of reviewing the feedback in order to hopefully achieve a five star rating on the next visit”.
