Sarum Academy has retained its ‘good’ judgement from Ofsted after its latest visit.

The inspection took place on February 21 and 22.

The team of inspectors said that is it a welcoming school where pupils are "safe and happy", "kind and respectful" and that they are part of "an inclusive school where pupils can be themselves".

The report, published today, praised the aspirations the school has for its pupils, the quality of the curriculum and the strong subject knowledge of the teachers.

The inspection team also commented on the school’s approach to personal development which focuses on "life in all its fullness".

On the pupils, Ofsted said they are kind and respectful, and develop positive attitudes towards others.

It added: "They also become "self-reliant and resilient" and "benefit from a range of leadership opportunities" including "roles as mentors and ambassadors" for the school.

"This is an inclusive school where pupils can be themselves. Pupils understand what bullying is. They say that it is rare, and have confidence in staff to resolve any incidents that occur. Staff and pupils enjoy positive working relationships."

Improvement

On what the school needs to do to improve, the report says: "In some subjects, teachers’ use of assessment does not support pupils to remember important ideas in the longer term.

"This means that pupils do not securely build on their existing knowledge. Leaders need to ensure that teachers use assessment to identify where pupils are not assured in their understanding of the curriculum, so that they can adapt their planning in response."

Jen Moore, Headteacher at Sarum Academy said: "This is a very positive report both for us as a school and for the local community.

"I am delighted that the inspection team recognise the tremendous work that goes on at Sarum and the praise for our pupils is a pleasure to read.

"Our school continues to grow in popularity and consequently in size. As a result, we are now able to offer an increasingly wide range of opportunities to our young people."

Mrs Moore added: "Students in our Sixth Form can study a variety of A Levels and vocational qualifications. We now have a brand new Football Academy and a fantastic hospitality course which make the most of our 3G pitch and professional kitchen, whilst providing students with career enhancing qualifications."
