Adrian Green, director of Salisbury Museum, will give a talk in aid of Fordingbridge Museum on artist and archaeologist Heywood Sumner on Friday, May 12 at 7.30pm at Avonway Community Centre in Fordingbridge.
Jon Ingham, chair of the Friends of Fordingbridge Museum, said: “Heywood Sumner lived a few miles from Fordingbridge until his death in 1940. He was an extraordinarily talented artist who was influenced by Ruskin and William Morris and was a key figure in the arts and crafts movement. He was also a renowned archaeologist and helped develop the modern scientific method that archaeologists use today.
“Despite being kept busy as an author, archaeologist and artist he still found time to play an active part in the life of his local community. This talk will throw a spotlight on a past resident of Fordingbridge who deserves a higher profile.”
Tickets are £10 and are available from the Fordingbridge Museum, Fordingbridge Bookshop or Ticketsource.
