MORE than 750 visitors of all ages enjoyed a model railway exhibition.

The Salisbury and South Wilts Railway Society (SSWRS) held its annual exhibition on May 20 and 21 at the Michael Herbert Hall, Wilton.

The exhibition offered a number of layouts in different gauges and was supported by local model traders from the southwest.

Wilton’s mayor, Councillor Andrew Kinsey, visited on Saturday and took a keen interest in the layouts exhibited.

He was shown around by the society’s chairman, Kevin Babey, and he admired the skills achieved by the Newton Heath Works model in O gauge, representing the once extensive clay railways in Purbeck, Dorset.

Charles Ottowell, exhibition manager, said: "Our society welcomes new members and our activities can be found on facebook @SSWRailSoc and our website at sandswrs.co.uk."
