TWO projects close to the city centre which are supported by a multi-million-pound investment are due to start soon.

The £9 million pound investment is from the Government’s Future High Streets fund and the first project will be the Fisherton Gateway, where the road network and public spaces along Fisherton Street and Southwestern Road will be improved.

Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Councillor Caroline Thomas, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into developing these detailed designs since last year’s public consultation. I am pleased we will soon be able to share these together with some of the construction plans currently being worked on with the public over the coming weeks."

The final design will be shared at a public event in July and any questions can be answered prior to the construction work beginning in the summer.

The second project is the Salisbury station forecourt which will be redesigned to make it more accessible and aesthetically pleasing. The final design is to be shared at a public event later in the year.

This enables questions to be answered prior to work starting.

Cllr Thomas added: “It is exciting to know that after all the hard work both of these important schemes for Salisbury will be starting on-site soon. The scheme supports Wiltshire Council’s business plan and our aim of creating and supporting vibrant city centres that help the local economy and encourages the growth of business activity in a sustainable way.

"They will also help ensure Salisbury remains a thriving and vibrant tourist location where both residents and tourists can support local businesses especially the fantastic independent and creative artistans which this modern medieval city is renowned for.
