A school’s summer ball raised more than £12,000 for two charities last weekend.

It was the first time that Chafyn Grove had held its summer ball for several years, but on Saturday, June 17, more than 200 guests enjoyed drinks on the lawn before a formal dinner.

The money raised is going towards Salisbury Foodbank and Friends of Chafyn Grove.

At an auction on the night, a week-long stay in a ski apartment in La Plagne went for £4,000, and two families spent a combined total of £3,000 on the chance for their child to be headteacher for the day, which includes setting the school menu, uniform and timetable.

There were also prizes to have a weekend stay in a cottage in Lulworth and the chance to skydive with the Army Parachute Display Team, the Red Devils which helps to fundraise for additional equipment for the school including new books for the library and sporting equipment as well as bigger items for the younger students such as a new Wendy house, netball posts and a climbing wall.

They also cover uniform and associated costs for Ukrainian students living with Chafyn Grove families.

Maria Stevenson from Salisbury Foodbank attended the event, and talked to guests about the importance of the work of the charity where in cohesion with the Trussell Trust they handed out 1 million emergency food parcels to children last year.

Further sponsors at the event included the Hendy Group, Wilton House Estate, Naim Audio, Appurity, Rowe Financial, Rathbones, Altus, Krysalis Consultancy and Enovation Controls.

The night ended on a high with local band The Deloreans singing a melody of songs with their eight-piece band, filling the dancefloor and creating an enthusiastic end where the band entered the crowd for a men versus women sing off.
