People gathered despite the rain as the ducks for the corporate race were launched from a horse drawn cart driven into the river in a manner emulating the scene seen in the famous The Hay Wain painting by John Constable. The public race was held just after.
The number of ducks for this year’s race was increased to 2,500, with a further 100 ducks sponsored by businesses for the corporate race.
First prize in the public race was £500, while the second place and third place winners received £200 and £100, respectively.
