Three South Wiltshire villages have made the final list for this year’s CPRE Wiltshire Best Kept Village Competition, sponsored by CCm Technologies.

Unfortunately, no South Wiltshire village came in first place with its category, but two villages placed third while another tied for second, with South Wiltshire villages featuring in the shortlist of every category.

In the category of Large Village, the Salisbury suburb of Alderbury came in third place with 80 points compared to the top winner of Bratton, outside Westbury, with 95 points.

In the category of Medium Village, Dinton came in third place with 82 points compared to first place winner Urchfont, outside Devizes, with 90 points.

In the category of Small Village, Burcombe tied Tytherington for second place at 76 points, both losing the gold by just one point to Tockenham, with its 77 points.

Two South Wiltshire villages placed in the finals for the Laurence Kitching Award, competed for by previous winners of the Best Kept Village Competition in 2021 and 2022.

Again, South Wiltshire lost out on the gold, but featured prominently in the list, taking 50 per cent of the listings. Tilshead took second place while Whiteparish took third place. Both were beat by the winner, Rushall.
