STOCK at the city's foodbank is 'very low' and the manager has put out a call for help.

Salisbury Foodbank released a plea for "a hero" on social media to help restock the toiletries section.

Manager Maria Stevenson said demand for the service has doubled since 2021 and while the team has been focusing on sourcing food essentials, the toiletries area has been "slightly neglected".

Toiletries are given to people accessing the foodbank as Maria described them as an "expensive essential" which are "easy to go without".

2023 has been the busiest year ever so far for Salisbury Foodbank as the cost of living continues to increase and so far 4,865 people have been helped with 43,785 meals.

This is up from the 4,748 that were helped in 2021.

The service saw a dip in demand by roughly 20 per cent during April in May as government grants were issued to people on benefits but many people are accessing the foodbank while working full-time.

Upon posting the plea, Maria has seen a huge amount of support from the "amazing" donors.

Around 25 parcels arrived full of donated toiletries bought online on Friday, August 4.

Pre-packed essentials bags ranging from £2 to £5 are also sold in local Tesco stores.
