ELDERLY residents of a park home estate have slammed a planning application which would build four commercial units in the field behind their homes, saying it has "ruined" their quality of life.

The application is for "four units alongside associated access, parking, landscaping and services" on Sunrise Way in in Amesbury.

Many residents have expressed concern and confusion about the proposed development, especially the noise pollution and dust that will come from it.

Some claim they were not even informed via letter.

Maddox Planning, the company behind the application, said that the proposed development will offer "key benefits", including "well-designed commercial units on a site allocated for such uses".

It also said the plans will "make a positive contribution to local employment opportunities".

Vanessa Dennison is a resident at Beverley Hills Park Homes, located next to the proposed site.

She said: "We are not happy about it, a lot of people didn't get a letter about it.

"There's been no consideration for us here at all, no one has even been here to speak with us.

"It's bang out of order. We all thought the application was for offices, but it's a distribution centre. The sound is just going to vibrate through.

"In the summer months, these homes get very hot, and I'm worried we won't be able to open our doors and windows without a load of dust coming in. It's ruined our quality of life."

Many voiced concerns about noise pollution that will be caused, as well as ventilation issues.

Another resident, Mike Wines, said: "My garden and home back onto the big fence behind where the work will take place.

"It's going to create so much dust and dirt and noise, and if it's a distribution centre will that mean bright lights at night?

"I already get woken up at two o'clock in the morning by the Home Bargains distribution centre, you can even hear them talking.

"We're all of an age where we don't want this aggravation."

Graham Saunders said: "I would like to know why the council didn't inform all of us, and why have we been totally ignored? I'm getting fed up of being treated as a second-hand citizen."

Other residents expressed environmental concerns.

Charlotte Markham said: "I've lived around nature all my life, and it's so sad to see it go, you cannot stop these big companies.

"I didn't receive a letter for this, I have in the past for other developments but I didn't for this."

Rita Power said: "They haven't even thought about the wildlife, it's taking away a lot of green space.

"I'm also concerned about the constant noise and beeping in the middle of the night."

James Vinson said: "I was here when they built the last unit, everything in your home rattles, and the bases are known to crack.

"The extra traffic and lorries will create so much noise. It's the wrong place for that building, smaller units would be okay but not this."

Peggy Bevis said: "It's going to be too close to us, my husband and I are both in our 80s and my husband is very ill.

"If we have to nurse him through that with all this noise then it won't be very nice."

Caroline Pollard said: "The ground is unstable, and because of this we are going to have more problems with vibrations affecting homes.

"Residents are just being brushed aside and due diligence hasn't been done."
