John Glen MP has shared his gratitude to the emergency services who responded to the scene of a murder at Bemerton Heath.

The Member of Parliament for Salisbury spoke of his shock to learn of the news but expressed thanks to the first responders who attended the crime scene at Gainsborough Close. 

In his column for this week's Salisbury Journal, Mr Glen writes: "I was shocked this week to hear the news of a fatal stabbing on Bemerton Heath.

"At the time of writing on Tuesday afternoon, the situation is still developing, but I know people will be distressed to have such a serious incident happen so close to home.

"My thanks go to the first responders who fought so valiantly to try and save a life and to the police who are working hard to reassure the community and ensure that justice is served."

Shortly before 12noon on Tuesday, August 22, a man in his 20s was stabbed in Gainsborough Close. 

He was declared dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed. 

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. 

Wiltshire Police said: "Shortly before 12noon, we responded to a report that a man in his 20s had been stabbed in Gainsborough Close.

"Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man was sadly declared dead at the scene."

A full statement from Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker reads:

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker from the Major Crime Investigation Team added: "This is an awful incident where a young man has tragically lost his life.

"Officers responded quickly and, thanks to key witnesses and intelligence from members of the public, we have been able to swiftly arrest a suspect on suspicion of murder.

"He remains in custody at this time.

"We believe that the suspect is known to the victim in this incident and we do not believe there is any wider risk to the public.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and there will continue to be an increased policing presence in the area while we pursue these.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dash cam footage from the location, please call us on 101 and quote crime reference number 115 of today."
