After being closed for months, The Albion in Verwood will once again be opening its doors under new management.

Since taking over as the new landlords, Rowena and Jay Jones have been hard at work undertaking repairs and renovations, keeping the public up to date on the developments via the pub’s Facebook page which was transferred to them by the previous landlord.

On Friday, August 18, Jay and Rowena said that they were hoping to open for the Summer Bank Holiday weekend and on Thursday, August 24, an opening date of Saturday, August 25 at 12pm was announced, provided all preparations go according to plan. Part of the pub will remain closed during the first few weeks of business for continuing refurbishment and repairs.

On Friday, August 24, Jay and Rowena posted multiple pics showing the progress of ongoing works on the garden.

Rowena said: “[Jay] is from Verwood. He was born here and we lived here for many years. We moved to Cornwall for the last five years but always wanted our own pub. When this one came up in his hometown of Verwood we just went for it and now here we are.

“We are aiming for it to be a family-run and family-friendly pub, and food will be on before Christmas once things settle down.

“The pub needed a lot of work to bring it up to public standards, but being closed for six months or so has meant that these things weren't able to be done before. We have done as much as we can but now we are having to wait for other more minor repairs.”
