A WOMAN who sold a sentimental necklace belonging to a man's late wife after it was burgled has been convicted of handling stolen goods.

Anne Marie Hewitt, 54, of Blandford Road in Coombe Bissett, pleaded guilty to the offence after helping Sonnie Kerley, 33, of Bishop Row, Longhedge, who was jailed for three years following a burglary in Homington.

At around 3.30pm on May 17, Kerley was seen by neighbours burgling a house in the village. He was tracked by a member of the public who was able to provide a detailed description of him.

Kerley was arrested and the stolen property, which included cash and a sentimental gold chain, was returned to the victim.

But Wiltshire Police enquiries found Hewitt drove Kerley to the house he burgled before driving to Cash Converters where she sold the necklace he stole.

Hewitt appeared in Salisbury Magistrates Court on Monday, October 2, where she admitted handing stolen goods and will be sentenced on November 17.

Local crime investigator Beverley Sargent said: “This is positive news that Hewitt has now appeared before a court and pleaded guilty to her role in this burglary, which really had a lasting and traumatic impact upon the victim.

“Burglaries are a Force priority as we understand the significant impact they can have on those involved. The thought of someone in your home, looking through your personal belongings can leave you feeling vulnerable and violated.
