PLANNED work on two busy roads in Salisbury have been postponed to cause minimal disruption to an event taking place in the city at that time.

Road work was due to take place on the New Bridge Road and Harnham Road over a five day period in November but the Sarum Lights event at Salisbury Cathedral was scheduled at the same time.

The event is on Tuesday, November 7 to Saturday, November 11 and explores art across the centuries. Thousands of visitors are expected.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council has said: "The road closure was to restore the skidding resistance of the carriageway to ensure our network is kept safe for road users. This work is weather dependent so because of this unpredictability we apply for longer duration road closures so that we have some flexibility within the programme for weather delays.

"In fact, the New Bridge road closure would only require the carriageway works to be carried out over two nights so causing minimal disruption to the Sarum Lights event. With the current weather unpredictability this work has been postponed and will be reprogrammed for later in the year."
