SEVERAL areas in Salisbury have been subjected to rising river levels and flooding and the city council has advised drivers to avoid using one car park due to it being partially underwater.

Churchill Gardens now has limited spaces so finding an alternative car park is advisable.

The footpath leading to Southampton Road and New Bridge Road were also flooded.

Flooding risks has been key in the city but the Salisbury River Park Project with an estimated cost of £35m was designed to reduce flood risk from the Maltings and central car park area.

Salisbury River Park Project Lead, Andy Wallis said: "I am not surprised it has flooded at Churchill Gardens as we have had so much rain lately but the River Park project will not reduce flooding there."

The footpath leading through Churchill Gardens up to Southampton Road is also flooded as is the underpass from Churchill Gardens leading beneath New Bridge Road Bridge towards St Nicholas's hospital.

Salisbury City Council has been contacted for comment.
