A MAN who threatened a woman in Salisbury has avoided jail, despite reoffending during a suspended sentence.
Neil Andrew Barr, 47, of Gainsborough Close, threatened a woman, causing her harassment, alarm or distress, near City Hall and the Maltings on September 14.
This offence was committed while Barr was serving a 24-week suspended sentence order for stalking and breaching a non-molestation order between November 11 and 29, 2021.
Salisbury Magistrates decided it would be "unjust" to imprison Barr because the offence is not one that attracts a custodial sentence.
Barr had already served seven weeks in custody on remand for the offence, not reoffended other than this matter and completed 80 per cent of the requirements of the order.
Barr changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Monday, November 6.
A restraining order was imposed preventing him from contacting the victim or going to Millstream Approach until November 5, 2024.
Magistrates also ordered Barr to pay £312.
