THE CHRISTMAS festivities have truly begun as the centre of Salisbury was transformed into the city of stars and lights. 

The countdown began in the Market Place on Friday, November 17  with the opening of Christmas on the Square and the return of Santa's Grotto in The Maltings.  With an artisan market,  and a selection of Christmas gifts, there was food and drink vendors and entertainment.

Festivities included Frost's destination bar with firepits to keep people warm and an area of food to serve up Christmas treats.

Santa's Grotto is located in The Maltings and will be in place until Sunday, December 24. Family photos can be taken while each child prepares their own postcard for Santa. 

A battle of good vs evil takes place with the production of Dick Whittington opening on Saturday, November 25.

Salisbury Cathedral has already began the festive season with a Twilight Tower Tour providing an opportunity for those prepared to climb 332 steps up into the spire to see the city's Christmas Lights from a unique elevated position.

There is also the Darkness to Light Procession taking place on Friday, December 1 and Sunday, December 3 at 5pm.
