A BURST pipe has caused "considerable damage" to a road, meaning it is going to be closed for a "considerable" amount of time.

Quavey Road Redlynch is closed from the junction of Grove Lane to the junction of Gogg’s Lane, Redlynch, and Salisbury Police has posted on Facebook to say that it is assisting Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Although the road will be closed for some time, there is still access for residents.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 7:59am today with reports of a burst water main on Princes Hill, Redlynch.  One fire engine from Salisbury was mobilised and on arrival, found a water main leak affecting one property.

"Crews assisted the occupants from the property and handed the incident over to the water company who were in attendance.  They left the scene at 8:40am."
