DETAILS of waste collection over the festive season has been released by Wiltshire Council.

Residents should be aware that there will be no waste collection service available on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Years Day and collections will be made two days later than usual.

Collection dates

  • Monday, December 25 will be collected on Wednesday, December 27
  • Tuesday, December 26 will be collected on Thursday, December 28.
  • Wednesday, December 27 will be collected on Friday, December 29.
  • Thursday, December 28 will be collected on Saturday, December 30
  • Friday, December 29 will be collected on Tuesday, January 2
  • Monday, January 1 will be collected on Wednesday, January 3
  • Tuesday, January 2 will be collected on Thursday, January 4

Do not add batteries, oil based paint, petrol cans, garden waste, gas bottles or chemicals, construction or demolition waste into the household waste bin.

Recycling 

No recycling collections will take place on Monday, December 25 or Tuesday, December 26 or on Monday, January 1, 2024.

Household Recycling Centres (HRC) will operate reduced hours from Sunday December 24 but will resume normal opening hours on Tuesday, January 2.

Garden waste

Garden waste collections will stop for two weeks over the Christmas period. The last collection will take place on Friday, December 22 and service will resume on Tuesday, January 9.

Collections will made a day later than normal.

Garden waste items include grass cuttings, shrub cuttings, prunings, bark, cut flowers, weeds, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs, small branches, house plants (soil removed) untreated sawdust or wood shavings, and biodegradable bedding(hay or straw) from non-meat eating pets i.e. rabbits, mice or hamsters.

The following items should not be included.

Food waste, invasive weeds, pet litter, bricks, stone or rubble, ash, large branches or logs, paper, shredded paper or card, seed trays, plant pots or packaging. 

Those who pay to have their garden waste collected can put out their real Christmas tree alongside their garden waste bin for the first collection in January. Note that fake trees will not be collected. 

Wiltshire Council has also confirmed opening times of the leisure centre and library during the festive period.
