A CHARITABLE organisation has handed out advent calendars to 300 children across Wiltshire after receiving funding from a local housebuilder.

Fighting Hunger with Food Waste collects goods from local supermarkets that can no longer be sold and then distributes items to individuals, families, foodbanks, schools and any other organisation that could benefit.

The charity was awarded £600 by Barratt David Wilson Homes South West enabling them to give children a chocolatey treat this Christmas.

The charity’s operational lead, Shona Tomlinson, said: “We’re really grateful for the generous donation from Barratt David Wilson Homes. Their support has helped us make Christmas that little better for so many children across Wiltshire.”

This is the second consecutive year the housebuilder has helped the charity with the support spearheaded by Jimmy Gatica, assistant site manager at David Wilson Homes’ Orchards Rise development at Wichelstowe.

He said: “Families in need may not be able to afford things that aren’t considered a necessity. We didn’t want any child to go without an advent calendar which is why we stepped in with a donation. It was a pleasure to help once again.”
