With the application deadline for primary school places in Wiltshire just around the corner, Ofsted reports have revealed the county’s highest rated schools.

The deadline to apply for a Wiltshire primary school place for 2024 is Monday, January 15.

With the decision date nearing for parents around the county, just nine Wiltshire primary schools under the jurisdiction of Ofsted currently boast ‘Outstanding’ ratings.

By Brook Valley Church of England Primary School.

Last rated almost ten years ago, By Brook School in Yatton Keynell, near Chippenham, scored top marks in a December 2014 inspection.

The successful result remains the school’s only grade since being converted to an academy in 2012.

Corsham Primary School

Located at Pound Pill in Corsham, this primary school was also judged to be ‘Outstanding’ after inspectors visited in July 2013.

Like By Brook, Corsham’s ‘Outstanding’ rating came in their only inspection since academy conversion in 2012.

Derry Hill Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School

Derry Hill C of E Primary School, on Church Road, was last rated in 2012 when it upgraded its score from ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding.’

At the time pupil achievement was described as “exceptional.”

Kington St Michael Church of England Primary School

The village primary school near Chippenham was last inspected in November 2014.

It received the highest possible grade after scoring ‘Good’ in its previous two reports.

Holy Trinity in Great Cheverell was handed an ‘Outstanding’ grade after a 14-year wait for an inspection.

At the time, headteacher Anna Woodman said: “It’s really challenging to get the Outstanding, so it’s taken a lot of hard work by a lot of people to achieve it. It’s incredible.”

Ramsbury Primary School

In March last year, Ramsbury Primary School maintained its ‘Outstanding’ grade during its first inspection since 2009.

The school has received the same rating in its last three reports.

Preshute Church of England Primary School

The school on Manton High Street was labelled ‘Outstanding’ after a full inspection in 2015.

It is now due for a graded inspection after an ungraded visit last year.

St Michael’s Church of England Aided Primary

This Aldbourne based school was rated ‘Outstanding’ in September 2016.

The report marked an impressive turnaround, coming nine years after the school was branded ‘Inadequate’ by inspectors.

Sarum St Paul’s Church of England (VA) Primary School

Found on Westminster Road in Salisbury, Sarum St Paul’s was given its last report in 2016.

It had previously been rated ‘Good’.
